I always have a horrible time keeping up with different files on my computer. I'll write an article, save it, then go to open it only to discover I have no idea where I put it. That frustration prompted this weeks article on Spotlight, one of the features of OS X: Tiger.
Spotlight is basically a search engine for your computer than can immediately find whatever it is you're looking for wherever you happened to have put it on your hard drive. A neat thing about Spotlight is it can search your email and photos as well. Spotlight will look not only at the file names, but also at what's inside them so you can use it even if you forget what you saved a particular document as.
If you're scatterbrained like me. or you just have a lot of information stored on your computer you will be able to appreciate the features in this program. I find myself looking for lost documents almost everyday. Or trying to remember what articles I've written on certain topics. Spotlight makes it easy to find all of those things instantly.
The program searches through your computer so fast that it can usually pull up results before you've finished typing in your search criteria, which is pretty neat as well. I was really impressed at how instant the results pop up as well as how comprehensive they are to what is on your computer.
