Apple has adopted a new recycling program for their desktop and laptop computers.
Starting in June 2006 when you purchase a new Apple computer from any Apple retail store or online, you can get free recycling of your old machine.
Free recycling? What does that entail?
Like major PC makers HP and Dell, the computer maker will take your computer back. Often times they will refurbish the computer and give it to a non-profit organization that can use it.
Apple currently takes back used ipods that customers no longer want, now they will give customers free shipping of their machines to be recycled as well as no longer charge the $30 recycling fee they did previously.
The recycling "fee" always seemed peculiar to me. Here, have my $3000 computer, and let me give you $30 to take it, plus pay to ship it to you. Not really a policy that makes people eager to give up their old machines.
This new policy is better for everyone. So- when you decide to purchase a New Mac Book this year, consider dropping off your old G4 at the Apple store to be recycled. You could be helping out someone in need of a good computer, and helping yourself get rid of the clutter in your home.
