When surfing the web this week I came across an article about a man named Peter Green who built a Mac Mini portable.
Mac Mini portable? It seems absurd.
My father has always been one of those tech savvy thrifty guys who would make something absolutely absurd, and think its fantastic simply on the principle that it saved him money. This guy is my dads kind on inventor.
What he did was to take a Mac Mini (Apples least expensive computer) and then buy things off ebay so he could attach a monitor to it, and make it essentially a laptop. A very small, but very thick laptop.
Is the Mac Mini portable going to catch on? Probably not. I think you would get more than just a few stares if you walked into Starbucks with this one.
The computer also costs around $700 to build when it's all said and done, not including the cost of labor to put the thing together. You would be much better off in the long run dropping the extra $200 to purchase an ibook. The Mac mini portable does have a smaller footprint than the ibook, and weighs less, so as dear old dad would say "Why do you need an ibook, this one is cheaper and better than the original?"
Its an interesting contraption to look at check out pictures here
