You're purchasing a new Mac, and one of the first things they ask you is "Do you want the Protection Plan?" Do you?
I think on this one, I'm going to have to say yes, yes you do.
When I switched to Mac seven years ago, I opted out of the protection plan. Add $300 to my $2700 bill? Heck No. I have to say, this was a horrible mistake.
It wasn't a mistake because the computer was broken' my first generation G4 PowerMac still works wonderfully. I needed the protection plan because like everything technical, I ran into problems.
With your computer purchase your phone support only lasts 90 days. After that you're on your own. With the protection plan you can ask a Mac specialist a question about your computer 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The AppleCare Protection plan gives you the extended phone support as well as three years of coverage for your hardware rather than the one-year that comes with the machine.
If your computer breaks, they will come to your home or business and fix it for you, including overseas. This can be invaluable if you travel a lot for business and require your laptop to survive.
The AppleCare coverage includes your Mac, and everything you purchase with your Mac like your airport card or Cinema display.
I normally stray away from "Protection Plans" thinking if it breaks I will just get it fixed. This one is well worth it for the tech support, and knowing that if your gigantic desktop breaks, someone will come to your house and fix it, you don't have to worry about disconnecting it and lugging the whole thing to the store.
You can purchase the AppleCare Protection plan with your Mac, wherever Macs are sold.
